MEDTRONIC LAFAYETTE CAMPUS

This new regional headquarters campus for Medtronic, one of the world’s largest medical device companies, consolidates the company’s three Colorado-based offices and laboratories into a single location.

The three-building campus serves three key Medtronic business sectors — Surgical Innovation; Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, and Informatics; and the Restorative Therapeutics Group. Within each four-story building, office floors provide Medtronic employees with a range of working spaces, including open office, laboratories, conference and meeting rooms, and spaces for informal collaboration. As a medical device manufacturer, education and training plays a major role in company operations, a priority recognized by a flexible auditorium space, which is outfitted for video production and livestream broadcasting. The campus also offers a range of employee amenities, including a fitness center, cafeteria, and outdoor workspace for use in warmer months. Employee wellness figured as a major design driver for the campus. The overall site plan emphasizes the location’s stunning views of the Front Range and encourages employees’ physical movement throughout the campus. Shared employee spaces on each floor include “view corridors” with full-height glazing, which face west towards the mountains. The exterior design of the building emphasizes the campus’s Colorado location, relying on colors drawn from the landscape and locally available materials.
