GREAT WORK MONTESSORI PK-5 SCHOOL

The first of two planned phases for a full PK-12 campus, this elementary charter school provides a high-quality Montessori learning environment for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Serving a lower-income neighborhood in Lakewood, Great Work Montessori is a charter public school free to elementary grade students, while offering the families of younger learners a sliding scale tuition model for children ages one to five. Set on a sloping site, the campus features multiple levels, including a more sheltered lower level dedicated to younger students. Classroom sizes are far above national standards, allowing for ample space to host the small learning groups that are a hallmark of Montessori education. The campus also offers extensive outdoor learning environments, with classrooms featuring extensive daylighting as well as overhead garage doors to foster an indoor-outdoor connection. The design of the school follows this emphasis on connecting to nature, with a farmhouse-style exterior that incorporates a red roof and exposed wooden beams. The school anticipates a second phase of development starting in 2021, which will include the middle and high schools, fitness center, and theater.
