YMCA OF NATRONA COUNTY
A transformative project for the greater Natrona County community, this new facility for the YMCA of Natrona County established a much-needed community hub for the area.
Designed and delivered in two distinct phases, the facility marks a new chapter for the YMCA of Natrona County. The new building replaces the YMCA’s previous 1960s facility, which limited both community interest in the organization and its potential for growth. Phase 1 of the new facility includes a wellness center, flexible field house with an elevated running track, fitness studio, drop-in daycare, and administration offices. Phase 2 adds an aquatics center, expanded locker rooms, members’ lounge, full daycare, and several other program spaces. The development of a family-focused environment was critical to the planning and design process, from the central location of the control desk for easy observation of the facility to the incorporation of bright and bold colors. The bright and bold palette continues to the exterior design, which incorporates prefinished metal paneling. The facility’s triangular site presented a unique design challenge, negotiating a 30-foot grade differential. The facility was designed in collaboration with recreation architect Barker Rinker Seacat.
