Denver based oil production company SM Energy needed a new field office to accommodate its rapidly expanding operations in the Bakken Oil Fields of North Dakota. MOA designed a site plan that utilizes topographical conditions to shield the building from harsh winds from the north while providing outside amenity spaces and an ample lay-down yard for outside operations. The project was constructed with a fast paced schedule that required MOA to closely coordinate with both SM and the General Contractor.
The building itself is a composite structure consisting of an unconventionally configured pre-engineered metal building with architectural precast concrete wall panels. The main entry and public spaces feature voluminous clearstories that bring in natural light that illuminates refined but economical finishes to create a high quality commercial office aesthetic. The project also features training spaces, employee amenities, an attached maintenance shop building, and a cold storage building. The exterior precast wall panels feature subtle reveals reminiscent of the geological strata with stylized well drilling that are seen by the staff in their daily tasks. Such intentional detailing brings meaning to the occupants while creating an attractive façade that will represent SM Energy and their endeavors for years to come.
