Several significant sustainable design strategies were incorporated in this 112,000 sf middle school serving 660 students. Extensive glazing provides needed daylight and views from each classroom. A translucent wall panel system surround the perimeter of the larger gymnasium and cafeteria spaces reducing day time artificial lighting requirements. The two story design allows for a smaller building footprint and reduced building skin area. Over night, an ice thermal storage system is used to create and store ice, and in the day the ice is used to supplement cooling, resulting in smaller chiller size and reduction in power requirements.
