The new Evanston Middle School will consist of 86,000 SF of completely renovated spaces and six small additions. The new configuration will include all of the educational program spaces that has been housed in several temporary buildings within the main building.
The basis of the new building design incorporates ideas of positive and negative space or mass and void to blend with the existing building’s strong architectural character. The new exterior materials will embrace the minimalist design of the existing building while updating it with contemporary materials and form. Using fiber-cement panels, flat metal panels, stone and clear anodized aluminum frames at glazed openings, the hope is to blend the new and the old.
